When your dog just ain't doin' right
Coughing, sneezing, runny nose, and a fever are all common symptoms to many respiratory diseases in dogs. With so many shared symptoms, these diseases can be difficult to diagnose. A thorough history of your pets travel history and day to day interactions can be a big help when figuring out what common respiratory diseases your pet may have come in contact with.
For the respiratory diseases that have a vaccine available (bordetella, adenovirus, canine distemper virus, and parainfluenza) it is important to keep your pet up to date on their vaccinations. These vaccines give your pet the tools needed to fight off infections and can allow your pet to recover faster. Prevention is always the best treatment!
Merck Animal Health tracks outbreaks for the common respiratory diseases in dogs and makes it easier to see what diseases are common in different areas in the country.
